Broadband speeds

The national
average broadband speed is now 2mb, up from 512k a
few years ago.
Up to 8mb is now enabled on most exchanges, however you don't always automatically get the upgrade from your ISP. You have to ask for it, and this may mean signing a new contract for a further 12 or 18 months, or it may incur additional charges or indeed the reverse > a price reduction.
If you are lucky enough to be a) close enough to the exchange and b) have a good quality line then you can expect to see download times like the one shown below.
